We are going to remain cautious spenders this year, keeping things local and simple whenever possible. Here are five trends to watch out for.

Back to Nature

With climate change a hot political issue, customers are more interested in the source of materials and production techniques for the products they buy. Countryside colours and motifs feature as people shun synthetic finishes. John Lewis’s spring/summer collection includes natural bark bowls and Bunbury board wooden coasters, which allow customers to trace the source tree.

John Lewis design manager Mockie Harrison says: “People are more aware of environmental problems but they don’t want traditional rustic to be at the expense of modern design and comfort. People want to know they’re spending their money wisely on something from a good source.”
